Short answer: I built Splitceipt to bring receipt capture, item-by-item assignment, flexible splits, group balances, and settlement tracking into one flow.

The receipt is on the table. Four people. One calculator app. Someone is figuring out who ordered the shared appetizer and whether the tip should follow each person’s order. Someone else says they will pay later.

That kind of dinner is the story behind Splitceipt. It was not a dramatic product epiphany; it was the familiar end-of-meal math taking longer than it should.

The awkward math at the end of every dinner

I was often the person with the calculator, trying to match each item to the people who ordered it. The hard part was remembering who had what and how to account for shared dishes. When friends order different meals, an equal split can feel unfair. I explain the options in my restaurant bill guide.

What was missing in 2026

My focus was to make both sides of the task easier to follow: who ordered each item and what remains to repay. The app needed to support a detailed restaurant receipt and a quick manual split, then keep the group’s balances together.

What Splitceipt does differently

  • Receipt capture: Take a photo or choose one from the gallery. Review and correct the extracted merchant, items, prices, tax, tip, total, and currency before saving.
  • Item assignment: Assign each item to one or more people. Shared dishes can be split among everyone who had them.
  • Tax and tip choices: Split extra charges proportionally to each person’s items or equally across participants.
  • Manual bills: Create an expense without scanning and split it equally, by custom amounts, or by percentage.
  • Groups and settlement: Keep ongoing shared costs in a Group, review balances, send payment requests, and record when a repayment is settled. Splitceipt tracks repayment status; it does not send money.
  • Currencies and exports: Use multiple currencies, with balances kept separate by currency. Pro adds receipt image attachments, personal analytics, and PDF/CSV exports.

Built for the way groups actually split

Not every bill needs a scanner. A quick meal can be entered manually, while dinners with different orders can use an itemized split. Groups keep bills and balances together for roommates, trips, and other ongoing costs; you add each expense as it happens.

For a one-off dinner with friends who do not use the app, a creator can share a browser Guest link. Guests can review the completed bill and mark their own repayment. The link is accessible to anyone who has it, and choosing a guest name does not verify identity; read my Guest link guide before sharing one.

What’s next

The product has grown from receipt capture to include manual bills, Groups, settlement tracking, and exports. The aim is still to make the split and repayment status clear.
